one of the things i wanted in a new home was no cell phone towers. i recently gave up my cell phone, very gladly. the closest tower to me is 15 miles away with 1 proposed at about 12 miles.

i am very lucky. most people live with hundreds within an 8 mile radius. that's terrible.

i've only got one near me.

have you read stephen king's "cell"? *shudder*

seriously, educate me here. i'm not 100% sure why this is an issue. the cancer link was only with extraordinary usage and was related to the handset, i think the battery. what's the specific worry with antenna towers? (aside from the urban-sprawl-over-population things that it implies, of course)

eta: holy shit. there were over 900 within eight miles of our place in denver.

i think it mostly has to do with electromagnetic frequency waves (emf). if you look up those there will probably be plenty of info about their health effects. also, cell phone towers are responsible for vast amounts of bird (especially songbird) deaths. for that check out http://www.towerkill.com/indexb.html

there's also the cultural side of it. millions of people running around with pieces of plastic attached to their ears having loud and animated conversations with no one (physically present, anyway). kids struggling not only to have the latest name brand clothes, but the latest "disposable" hi-tech phone (which isn't in any way actually disposable). further increasing the terrible isolation of the average person. talking talking all the time but never any real interaction. and then there's the manufacturing of them. highly toxic and destructive and done mostly by slaves.

so, yeah. all around, they're just bad news.
