(i will be giving more depth to my profile by doing posts for each thing i wrote there. i will then link from my profile to each post.)

barefoot. that's my feet in my icon. in their most preferred state: naked.

here's a few links that support going barefoot:

Learning to Walk

shoes are bad and we should all go barefoot

The Barefoot Hiker

i walk barefoot whenever possible. i've been in supermarkets, restaurants, movie theatres, hiking up mountains, round disney, in malls, and in protests, barefoot. disney threatened to kick me out, actually! i've walked barefoot in snow and in long grass. someone said to me the other day, "where are your shoes? you'll get sick walking around barefoot..." when i asked why, exactly, i would get sick walking barefoot, the answer was a mumbled, "well, you'll get a chill" - in other words, they had no idea why they were telling me to wear shoes, just that it's "the done thing".

shoes, like clothing, started out as a protection from the elements. then they got taken over by consumerism and profit-mongers and oppressive forces wanting to dictate things. remember the asian women who made their feet deformed stapping them into teeny shoes? seen numerous people with bunions caused by improper shoes? seen all those women with horrendous back problems because they wore six inch stilletoes for years? shoes are not natural for our feet and are a weapon of oppression.

shoes = bad!

shoes = oppression!

go barefoot today. be free!

i like the feel of the earth beneath my feet. i like feeling connected to that earth. all the different textures of the earth are a delight to my feet. i feel the ground with my feet the same as i feel anything with my hands. direct sensation. my feet are nearly always dirty. i like dirt!

i do wear shoes, of course. i wear them in the winter nearly all the time. it sucks. i'm much happier when i can get socks and shoes off and go barefoot.

I like to walk barefoot as well - there were a couple of times when I had to leave my office for a fire alarm barefoot and then got cold/wet feet standing outside - and a few times when I've gone out walking barefoot and ended up stranded because all the concrete paths had heated up so much in the afternoon sun that I'd get burnt if I tried to walk on them! I've kind of hopped from grass verge to grass verge in situations like that.

hahahaha. yeah, me, too! i lived in florida for 14 1/2 years, where they cut down all the trees to build the suburbs even though 8 months of the year is 80 plus degrees and clear blue skies. it's crazy. the worst place to be barefoot was the supermarket parking lot. the tarmac wouldn't feel too bad until i was half way to the supermarket, then all of a sudden it was scorching!

Ugh, shoes. I have such a hate-hate relationship with them, lol. I remember as a kid I went barefoot all the time, I still remember running down the dirt lane on my grandparents farm - so fun. It's hard to go barefoot here because 1.Lots of sun and lots of pavement, and 2.It's freaking dirty, so dirty, lots of broken glass, etc. But, after reading the link from ran prier's site, I'm going to start walking barefoot more often, when I can, anyways.

I used to go barefoot when I lived in TX all the time, but they actually kick you out of places if you don't have shoes on, haha. And I know that I used to go barefoot in the summer when the pavement was 8 billion degrees - please tell me why I can't do that anymore??!!

:)

barefoot on hot tarmac sucks. the trick is to run. fast. i bet, as a kid, you ran fast!

that said, i protested in st. pete, florida with no shoes. frequently. it's a matter of getting used to it, and selective placement of feet. i would go from sand patch to grass patch to concrete (white cement is always cooler than black tarmack!)

but grass is the best. go to the park and walk barefoot there. i drive barefoot, too, incidentally.

Oh man, I ran everywhere when I was a kid. My grandma used to call me Speedy, after Speedy Gonzales, because I was fast but also hyper. Sometimes I wish my parents had put me in track, up until junior high I pretty much outran all the boys and girls in my school. Running was fun. Being old and out of shape, not so much, lol.

Man I need to retool my life a little. I'm doing it wrong! ;)

I loved that article and actually did a barefoot hike this weekend at Oscar Scherer park. It wasn't intentional, but the trail we took was more like beach sand than anything else. It seemed to make sense to take the shoes off - else all you got was two very uncomfortable shoes full of sand...not to mention that slogging through soft sand without the assistance of your toes is very hard work. Dana and I went barefoot and had a much easier time of it than her boyfriend and Don who both opted to keep their shoes and socks on.
